Cuppa is informal British for cup of tea, used particularly by the working classes to describe the afternoon break. I first read the word cuppa in a book about a smart and stylish young woman named Maisie Dobbs who lived in London just after the First World War. She built a career as a private investigator and her multi-book adventures explore themes of growth and transformation during a time of personal and societal devastation. I adopted Maisie’s practice of cuppa not only to be as cool as her, but also to make a practice of my own--to slow down and gather myself. (A little afternoon caffeine doesn’t hurt either.)
Cup and saucer are made with my own handmade cotton rag paper. Book is tea-stained Japanese paper. Type is Cambria. Box is heavyweight drawing paper decorated with pochoir.
